MEET JANIS!
15 April 2023
Janis, mum of 5 from Carrickfergus is taking on the FIRST Almac Belfast City 10K event on Sunday 18th June!

1. Name, age and location
Janis Burnside, 39 (very soon to be 40), Carrickfergus
2. What is your occupation?
Full time mummy of the crazy 5 happy kids
3. Why are you participating in the new Almac Belfast City Women’s 10k on Sunday 18th June?
After completing Belfast marathon in April, Almac Belfast City Women’s 10k will start my training plan for my next marathon towards the end of the year and also how could I not support all us female runners and who doesn’t love a 10k.
4. Are you a member of a running club?
Yes, I joined Barn Runners in January 2015. Just after I had my first daughter in July 2014 I struggled to get my running capability back and a family friend suggested the Barn Runners club and I haven’t looked back since. I have made friends for life from joining the club, coach Alan Rinchey has gave me some invaluable advice over the years. From joining the club 8 years ago I have since had 4 more babies and ran throughout all 4 pregnancies the club was amazing in supporting me and helping me get back on track afterwards also.
5. Do you intend on participating with one of our female pacers? (50 mins/60 mins/70mins)
I don’t like to put too much pressure on myself, but I do like to have pacers in sight!
6. Are you attending the event with anyone? Family, friends, colleagues or running club?
Not at the minute but I’m sure I’ll rope my girl runners into signing up.
7. Are you competing in the event for a charity? Would you consider choosing Cancer Focus NI?
This time I will not be competing for a charity. I have however ran marathons previously for charities close to my heart such as STEPS for hips dysplasia, Prostate Cancer and Chest Heart and Stroke.
8. Would any of your family, friends or colleagues like to volunteer at the event?
Yes, some of the family would, I know my eldest daughter would be very excited to do this.. she’s coming 9.
9. Who will be your biggest cheerleaders on the day?
My biggest cheerleaders are my 5 children they love to come and support me and see all the the other runners. I’m so fortunate to have such amazing support from my family.
10. If others were thinking of registering for the event but unsure, what advice would you give them?
Just go and do it, you’ll never get another buzz like you do when you cross that finish line, it’s great for your mental health and fitness, fab morning out and well organised. Run, walk or skip it, just make it fun with friends. Oh and you get a medal.. it’s all about the bling!!
