Festive season kicks off with the Moy Park Belfast City 5K Fun Run

15 November 2024

Belfast’s Christmas season starts with a weekend filled with festivities – from the Christmas light switch on, the Dickensian-themed Christmas market opening, 2 Royal Avenue’s Winter’s Den and of course, the debut staging of the Moy Park Belfast City 5K Fun Run!

Festive season kicks off with the Moy Park Belfast City 5K Fun Run

One of the greatest and most recognised local celebrities, May McFetridge, will start the sold out event at Belfast City Hall on Sunday morning. One thousand participants made up of adults and children alike are set to run, jog or walk the 5K route through the heart of Belfast before finishing on Donegall Place.

As a result, motorists can expect some disruption throughout the morning, although every attempt will be made to ensure that this is kept to a minimum. The event organisers appreciate the impact and inconvenience of traffic disruption, but ask that motorists please follow the traffic management measures and take direction from stewards to ensure safety for participants and road users alike.

The streets of Belfast City Centre will have an added glow on Sunday morning as many are expected to enjoy the 5k fun run in fancy dress. The winners of the fancy dress competition (sponsored by Belfast Live) will continue their festive celebrations with a family ticket to Beauty and the Beast at the Waterfront Hall.

Many participants are using the event to raise funds for official charity partner, Cancer Focus NI. Every penny raised will go directly towards their vital Family Support Service, helping families through the challenges of a cancer diagnosis. If you’re bringing children, be sure to pop by the Cancer Focus NI stand at the finish line so they can complete their masterpiece and be part of a colouring competition to win an Airtastic voucher and family pass for the Titanic Museum.

Belfast Live will have LIVE results available throughout the morning before anyone else. If you’re not running, jogging, walking or volunteering at the event, why not head down to Belfast City Centre and cheer on the participants. There will be lots of fun-filled activities for you and your family and friends to enjoy on the day, including music and giveaways from our friends at Cool FM, tasty sampling from Moy Park and face painting with Cancer Focus NI.

After the Moy Park Belfast City 5K Fun Run, you can bring your little ones to Belfast One Santa’s Post Office where they can enjoy arts and crafts, and design a special letter to Santa! This is a free event for all families to attend. You can also visit the Christmas Market during its 20th year outside City Hall – the award-winning market opens at 12noon on Sunday.
